What to Expect During Your Child’s First Visit

At Jenkins Dentistry for Kids, we believe that every visit should be as comfortable and stress-free as possible — and that starts with personalizing the experience. If your child is feeling a little apprehensive or needs extra care, we encourage you to let us know ahead of time so we can adjust accordingly. We also pay close attention to their cues throughout the visit and take things at their pace, because building trust and creating joy is at the heart of what we do.

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by a special board featuring your child's name! One of our friendly team members will greet you and verify any necessary information. While you’re getting settled, your little one can enjoy the fun activities we have in our office to keep them entertained and excited for their visit!

During the appointment, we’ll begin by reviewing your child’s dental and medical history forms. Our team members will then gently clean and polish their teeth, followed by X-rays if needed. During the exam, we can offer a movie, toys, books, and props to make the experience feel fun and keep your little ones engaged. Our dental assistants use playful language and go at a gentle pace to avoid any "scary words" and keep the experience light and positive.

Once the cleaning is complete, one of our doctors will sit down with you and your child to go over any X-rays (if taken) and create a treatment plan, if necessary. We’ll ensure you fully understand any recommended treatments, insurance options, payment plans, and timelines. If your child needs extra TLC, we’ll also discuss the many forms of treatment we can offer your child!

After their exam, your child can choose from a variety of fun prizes, like a popsicle or ice cream, an age-appropriate toy, stickers, and a balloon.

We’ll get your child scheduled for their next routine cleaning in six months to keep their oral health on track and ensure they’re excited about maintaining their beautiful smile. We’re here to help them build trust in us, one visit at a time.

We can’t wait to meet you and your little one, and we’re so excited to be a part of their dental journey!
